The emperor Jahangir died in camp on a return journey from Kashmir in 1627, and was buried at Shahdara, 3 miles north-West of Lahore at that time. The tomb of Jahangir stands beside a former bank of the Ravi in the midst of a large garden 1,500 feet square, enclosed by a brick wall with a monumental gateway in the middle of the West side.
